Attack on Titan Trivia: How Well Do You Know the Full Series?
Attack on Titan โ Shingeki no Kyojin โ is one of the most ambitious and relentlessly surprising stories in anime history. What begins as a survival horror story about humanity trapped behind walls gradually unfolds into a geopolitical thriller, a war drama, and a philosophical reckoning with cycles of hatred and the terrible cost of freedom. Hajime Isayama's manga ran from 2009 to 2021, with the final anime adaptation by MAPPA concluding a story that left almost no one unmoved.
This guide covers the key facts, characters, and plot points you need before taking the quiz.
The World Within the Walls
At the story's start, the remnants of humanity live within three concentric walls on the island of Paradis: Wall Maria (outermost), Wall Rose (middle), and Wall Sina (innermost). They have lived this way for over a century, protected from Titans โ enormous humanoid creatures that devour humans without apparent motive.
The Survey Corps โ the military branch responsible for venturing beyond the walls โ is humanity's primary hope for understanding and eliminating the Titan threat. It is also, for most of the story, a place where talented soldiers go to die. The Omni-Directional Mobility Gear (ODM Gear) is the tool that makes Survey Corps combat possible: gas-powered grappling hooks that allow soldiers to launch themselves through the air, targeting the nape of a Titan's neck โ the only vulnerable point.
Key Characters
Eren Yeager โ The protagonist, who swears to exterminate every Titan after watching his mother devoured in the series' opening. His arc is the longest and most complicated in the series.
Mikasa Ackermann โ Eren's adopted sister, one of the most gifted soldiers in the 104th Cadet Corps. An Ackermann โ a bloodline that cannot have memories suppressed by the Founding Titan โ which becomes plot-critical.
Armin Arlert โ Eren and Mikasa's childhood friend. Strategically brilliant in ways neither of them are; he is the one who figures out enemy identities and weaknesses ahead of everyone else.
Levi Ackermann โ Captain of the Survey Corps' Special Operations Squad, universally known as "Humanity's Strongest Soldier." His combat statistics are unmatched by any other human in the series. Like Mikasa, he is an Ackermann.
Erwin Smith โ Commander of the Survey Corps, the strategist who keeps humanity's best fighters alive long enough to matter. Morally complicated in ways that become clearer as the story develops.
The Nine Titans
The series eventually reveals that Titan powers are not random โ they are nine specific forms inherited from Ymir Fritz, the first Titan:
The Truth Inside the Walls
Season 3 and 4 progressively reveal the full picture: Paradis is not the last remnant of humanity. There is an entire world outside the walls โ specifically the nation of Marley on the mainland, which has been sending warriors to Paradis for generations to reclaim Titan powers. The Eldian people โ those capable of becoming Titans โ are persecuted by Marley and used as weapons.
The walls themselves contain millions of dormant Colossal Titans standing upright, their hardened skin forming the wall structure. This is the mechanism behind the Rumbling: should the Wall Titans be awakened and released, they would march across the world as an unstoppable stampede.
The Rumbling
In Season 4, Eren โ having seen the memories of the future through the Attack Titan's ability โ activates the Founding Titan's power by making contact with Zeke (who has royal blood). He awakens the Wall Titans and unleashes the Rumbling: the dormant Colossal Titans marching to destroy all civilizations outside Paradis Island.
The remaining Survey Corps members โ including Mikasa, Armin, Levi, and former enemies from Marley โ must stop him, knowing that the world posed a genuine threat to Paradis but unwilling to accept genocide as the answer.
