Richard Gadd performed the original Baby Reindeer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019, where it won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show. The Fringe is the world's largest arts festival and the most competitive platform for new comedic work — winning there is a significant signal.
The stage version was a raw, confessional monologue.
