What Makes the Show Work

Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (creators of *Westworld*) understood that the Fallout universe's power comes from its tonal balance: genuine horror and dark comedy existing side by side. The wasteland is brutal, but it's also absurd — and the show nails that register perfectly.

The decision to set the series in Los Angeles also paid off visually. The contrast between the city's pre-war glamour and its irradiated ruins gives the show a distinct visual identity that's different from any previous Fallout game.
