Friends ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004 and has never really stopped being watched. It is one of the most-streamed shows in the world, which means a whole new generation has grown up with Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe. The Six Characters: Essential Facts

Ross Geller

  • Palaeontologist at the Museum of Natural History, later a professor at New York University
  • Three divorces: Carol Willick (left him for Susan Bunch), Emily Waltham (said 'Rachel' at the altar), Rachel Green (married while drunk in Las Vegas)
  • His "We were on a break!" defence spans the entire series
  • His most famous pet: Marcel, a white-headed capuchin monkey

    The One Where Everybody Finds Out (S5E14) — The episode where Phoebe discovers Monica and Chandler's relationship. The game of bluff between Phoebe and Chandler is widely considered the funniest scene in the series.

    The One with the Embryos (S4E12) — The lightning round quiz where Monica and Rachel bet their apartment against Chandler and Joey's apartment on who knows who better. Monica and Rachel lose. The defining question: What is Chandler's job?

    The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break (S3E15) — The break begins. Ross sleeps with Chloe from the copy place. "We were on a break" is born.

    The One with the Prom Video (S2E14) — A home video reveals that Ross was going to take Rachel to prom when her date didn't show. Culminates in the first Ross-and-Rachel kiss.

    The Last One (S10E17-18) — The finale. Rachel gets off the plane. Monica and Chandler leave for Westchester. Everyone leaves their keys on the counter. The yellow frame on the empty door.

    What is Chandler's middle name? Muriel. Chandler Muriel Bing.

    Where did Monica and Chandler first hook up? London, at Ross's wedding to Emily.

    What is Phoebe's twin sister's name? Ursula — who also appears in Mad About You as a waitress.

    Who is Ross's favourite book? The Little Prince — he reads it to Rachel's stomach during pregnancy.

    What were the names of Chandler and Joey's chick and duck? The chick: Yasmine. The duck: just "the duck." (This is actually contested — the show is inconsistent.)

    What is the name of the game show Joey and Chandler watch in their apartment? Bamboozled (a fictional show Joey gets cast on in Season 7).

    The Central Perk Trivia

  • The couch at Central Perk always has a "reserved" sign on it (shown in background shots)
  • The coffee shop is located in Greenwich Village
  • Gunther, who runs Central Perk, has an unrequited love for Rachel throughout the entire series
  • Gunther's real name (revealed in the finale): Gunther Central. He actually buys the coffee shop.
