New Characters and Cast
Tony Tony Chopper
The biggest casting challenge of Season 2 was always going to be Chopper — a talking reindeer who is also a doctor. The production team chose a combination of practical puppetry and CGI to bring Chopper to life, staying true to his adorable appearance while making him feel real in the live-action world. Chopper joins the crew on Drum Island before the Straw Hats reach Alabasta.
Princess Vivi
Nefertari Vivi is the heart of the Alabasta arc — a princess who infiltrated Baroque Works undercover to save her kingdom. Her bond with the Straw Hats becomes one of the most emotional relationships in the series.
Sir Crocodile
The main villain of Alabasta is Sir Crocodile, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. He possesses the Sand-Sand Fruit (Suna Suna no Mi), which makes him nearly invincible in the desert. Crocodile is the first villain in One Piece who truly outclasses Luffy in power and experience.
Production Details
The series continues filming at Cape Town Film Studios in South Africa, where massive new sets were built to create the desert landscapes of Alabasta and the winter island of Drum Kingdom. Eiichiro Oda remains actively involved as executive producer, ensuring the adaptation stays true to the spirit of his manga.
Season 1 consisted of 8 episodes covering the East Blue saga, and Season 2 expands the scope significantly with new locations, new Devil Fruit powers, and action sequences that push the boundaries of what is possible on a streaming budget.
