What Is Thunderbolts*?
Thunderbolts* is a Phase 5 Marvel film directed by Jake Schreier, following a group of government-sponsored antiheroes, former villains, and morally complicated operatives who are assembled (reluctantly) for a mission that spirals into something much larger.
Unlike the Avengers โ heroes who chose to be heroes โ the Thunderbolts are people who were used, broken, discarded, or never given a real choice. The film is expected to explore themes of trauma, identity, and what it means to be called a hero when you've been labeled the opposite.
Meet the Team
Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh)
The Black Widow successor and sister of Natasha Romanoff. Yelena is efficient, sharp-tongued, and funnier than she lets on. She appeared in Black Widow and Hawkeye before becoming a key figure in the MCU's next phase. She cares deeply โ she just makes sure no one knows it.Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan)
The former Winter Soldier. Bucky has spent decades trying to atone for crimes that were done through him, not by him โ a distinction that doesn't always help with the guilt. He's steady, loyal, and quietly carrying more weight than most people could survive.Red Guardian / Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour)
The Soviet super-soldier who absolutely never stops talking about being the Soviet super-soldier. Alexei is boisterous, lovable, and convinced that his legend is just waiting to be properly acknowledged. He's also, occasionally, exactly what the team needs.Ghost / Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen)
Ava Starr can phase through solid matter โ a result of a painful experiment that has left her in constant physical agony. She appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp and represents one of the MCU's most tragic origin stories. She's learning, slowly, that isolation isn't the only option.John Walker / US Agent (Wyatt Russell)
The man who briefly wore the Captain America shield and used it wrong. John Walker is ambitious, genuinely patriotic, and unable to accept that good intentions aren't always enough. He's been humbled but not broken.Bob / The Sentry (Lewis Pullman)
Bob is the film's wildcard. Lewis Pullman plays a character connected to one of Marvel Comics' most powerful โ and most psychologically fragile โ figures. The asterisk in the title? Many believe it refers to the Sentry.Which Thunderbolts* Character Are You?

Why This Team Is Different
The Avengers are defined by choice. The Thunderbolts are defined by what was done to them โ and what they choose to do next. That tension is what makes the film compelling before a single frame has been seen in full.
