About This Quiz
Ten questions and not one of them is about work. That is deliberate. Ask someone what they are good at and you get the version they would put on a CV, sanded down and slightly untrue. Ask instead what they do with something that is already broken, where their eyes go in a photograph of a crowd, or what happens when a group of them gets properly lost, and the answer arrives before the editing does. Five results, and the kind of work each one points at is named at the end rather than given away at the start.

Because asking directly gets you the answer somebody would put on a CV. Name a job in a question and the taker can see which option is which, so they pick the one they would like to be true rather than the one that is. A broken object, a stalled queue and an empty whiteboard get at the same thing before the editing starts. The mapping underneath is real, it is just invisible while you are answering.
what are the five results?▼
Maker, analyst, operator, carer and tinkerer. The maker cannot leave a thing the way they found it, the analyst wants to know how the number was arrived at, the operator takes over, the carer is the one people tell things to, and the tinkerer takes things apart. Each result names the kind of work it points at, design, evidence, running things, people, or the edge of a field.
is this a real career test?▼
No, and it does not pretend to be. A proper vocational assessment is long, validated and usually costs money. This picks up a consistent pattern across ten unrelated choices, which is usually real even when any single answer is not, and it is better used as a prompt for a conversation than as a plan. If the result feels wrong, the one you nearly got is normally the honest answer.
